My bad.

The stone shows 1881-1960.
1958 came from a family tree - which is probably another version of genealogy you found.

Since they died fairly recently (50ish years ago) it might be worth asking local newspaper to run a story for information.
Also, someone had to give orders for the gravestone- try contacting the church/cemetery to see if they can help.
Might also have left Wills with bequests, burial instructions, etc.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

In that case I would suggest you start "trawling" the BMDs.

Go to:

http://images.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/choose.pl

and fill in each possible death date. I'd start with 1960 and look at each quarter, then work backwards until you find his death. Let us know what you find. It will be obvious when you find him. You may have uncovered a mistake in the official records. :)

It IS slow and cumbersome but it is deliberately that way to make it not easy.

Thank you fr your ideas.

we contacted the newspaper, let' see what the can do.
the cemetery could only provide the info that they did not reside in Corfe Castle.

Might also have left Wills with bequests, burial instructions, etc.

We are no sure how to do this.

What a lovely stone! It is so perfectly weathered it is almost transparent in the photo.

Well there you go!!! You've just proved that the "Official Records" of the family are slightly incorrect. He actually lived two years longer than the records show!

I think your "Emigration to England" research just came up with a merit for you. :)

If you order that certificate ... sadly you'll have to pay £9.50 for it nowadays ... you will have proof. :D
