Hi Claire ...

The MacVITIEs first appear in Handborough in 1746.  Your baptism information for Edmund MacVITIE (spelt McVITTIE on the PRs) is correct.

Here is William and Lucy's marriage entry:

07 MAR 1798 - William McVITIE b. to Lucy WELLER by Licence (Witnesses: Sarah SMITH and John WELLER)

And this looks like Lucy's baptism:

21 FEB 1799 - Lucy WELLER, d. Jasper and Mary

Hope this helps!

Would you mind checking the following for me please.

I have these baptism dates, but not the first names, would you mind checking the first names please  :)

24 Nov 1805 L? MacVitie and 09 Feb 1817 M? MacVitie

Thank you once again

Hi Pam ...

From the Handborough PRs:

17 JAN 1813 - William WOODWARD, s. James and Mary

The Handborough index indicates a marriage for a James WOODWARD in 1817, but I can find no record of it in the registers (checked year either side just in case!).

This is the only James WOODWARD/Mary marriage on the OFHS's Oxfordshire Marriage Index (1538-1837):

09 FEB 1807 - James WOODWARD (sojourner) to Mary KING (sojourner) at Oxford St. Giles

Date-wise, it's a possible.

Will carry on searching tomorrow!

Hi Claire ...

From the Handborough PR transcripts, these are the full entries for the two individuals you mention:

24 NOV 1805 - McVITTIE, Limborough, s. William and Lucy
09 FEB 1817 - MacVITIE, Mark, s. William and Lucy, butcher

I have given the surname spelling in the way it's written in the PRs.

In the case of the 1805 baptism, I'm fairly confident of the forename - it looks like the fifth and sixth letters had been transposed and then corrected!  There was no marriage at Handborough for this individual (or on the Oxfordshire Marriage Index), but I then found the following burial at Handborough, which seems to fit:

10 JAN 1821 - MacVITTIE, Limbrea, 15, Ramsden

Hope the above helps!

Hi Pam ...

From the Handborough PRs:

08 AUG 1813 - Richard HEDGES, b, m. Elizabeth WOODWARD, sp
Witnesses:  Stephen WOODWARD and Job WOODWARD

This is the only baptism for a James WOODWARD at Handborough between 1765 and 1800:

03 JUL 1785 - WOODWARD, James, s. James and Lydia

There is no record of a baptism for a Mary KING at Handborough.  I checked from 1793 to 1800 (prior to 1793, the next KING baptism is not until 1654).

Hi Pam
I'm new to this, but William Woodward and Ann Hedges were my 2 x gt grandparents - his parents were Thomas Woodward b abt 1787 who married Sarah Woodward 16 July 1809 Handborough. I have both of their death certificates BUT cannot find Thomas Woodward's bap. Have you had any success?
