Hi there sweetsugar

I have Nairns in my family and have been having problems tracing the parents of James Nairn and his place of birth.  He was born about 1690.  He married Margaret Blyth in 1717 in Newburgh, Fife.  They had at least seven children all born in Newburgh.  Any connection?  I think he may have had a brother, Michael - married to Jean Bannerman.

Hi Sweet.

Yes, I am descended from Colin and Janet's daughter Agnes Methven. She married George Duff in Kilconquhar and their daughter Betsy married David Nicholson in Cameron in 1856. Their son David is my mother's great grandfather. Betsy married Colin Methven after her husband died very young in 1859. Colin might have been her cousin, as his father was Robert Methven whose parents were most likely Colin Methven and Janet Watson. Which Methven are you descended from?

Regards,
Michael

Hmm I haven't come across a June, so far I have eight children for George Duff and Agnes Methven -
Janet b 1833
Colin b 1835
Betsy b 1837 (my gggreat grandmother)
Margaret b 1842 - she married David McGill in 1862 and had two children
Andrew b 1840
Robert b 1845
William b 1850
Euphemia b 1852 - she married Robert Law in 1875 and had at least four children

I think that Colin Methven (Betsy Duff's second husband) was the son of Robert Methven and Mary Simpson, your Janet's brother? Do you know anything further back, about Colin Methven and Janet Watson for example?

Regards, Michael
