Hi hburgesss7
sorry pressed the wrong button on the Poll. I thought i would try and find any information on a web site that i could direct you to. Unfortunately when i typed in the words Maternity home Poulton cum Spital a history.I got a message to say "This could be offensive and to try another search engine .Which i did but keep getting the same message. It's a very delicate subject and you might be best contacting the council in the area.

Hope this is of some help to you

Brilliant to hear of someone who wants to acknowledge there was such a place ! Were you born in 1950s too ? were you adopted or not ? Why do you think it's so hush - hush .Was it where unmarried mothers went to give birth ? Do you know where I could find any info. on the home ?

I was born in 1950 at the Maternity Home, in the grounds of Clatterbridge Hospital, my birth is registered as Pouton-cum-Spital.  I don't know if it had another name but I will ask my Mam this week about if for you when I see her and let you know.

Yes, I was a nurse at Clatterbridge Hospital in the late 60's the mums from the Hoylake Home came to Clatterbridge to have their babies.  I remember clearly working in the nursery and the babies being in there and then collected by I presume the social workers or it may have been the hospital almoner in those days.  The mums had often been in the home for some months away from their families.  The mums were from all over the North West.
Hope this helps

Kathb - are you researching Davies's ? Mine are mostly from the Seacome area , if you want any info.
Thanks for that on the maternity home. I was actually born at the maternity home so maybe in the 50's they actually had the babies there.

Thanks for the offer on the Davies.  Davies was my mothers maiden name. I am not sure yet where my grandfather originated from.  He was in Birkenhead in the 1891 Census and married my grandmother Isabella James Beatrice Lewis circa 1901.  He died before I was born in 1950.  Do you have anything matching this?
