Looking for information on the Furlong family who were in Cardiff in the latter part of the 1800s. The following info is from the 1881 census which shows the family in Leaf Square, Pendleton, Salford, Lancs.

John Furlong, head, b. 1849 Cosheston, Pembrokeshire, School Master
Elizabeth F Furlong, wife, b. 1849 Manorbier, Pembrokeshire
Kelly T B Furlong, son, b. 1876 Slough, Bucks
Albert E Furlong, son, b. 1878 Slough, Bucks, Blind
Elizabeth A Furlong, daur, b. 1879 Cardiff
James L Furlong, son, b. 1881 Cardiff
Ann Lewis, servant, b. 1817 Walsall

John was a teacher, so maybe he taught at a school in Cardiff.

Hi Andy

What information are you looking for now, specifically? Pre-1881? Post-1881? Census? BDM's? Parents?

Cheers

AMBLY,

I'm trying to find out what took the family to Cardiff. John Furlong (the head of the family) was a teacher, so I'd like to find out if there are any schools in the area which have him on record. I know he later taught at a private college in Luton, Bedfordshire.

Any clues on the area in which they lived would be interesting.

Hi Andy

The specific birthplace locations /address' from the certs of the two children born in Cardiff , registered   Mar Qtr 1879 and Dec Qtr 1880 may help identify what schools were nearby in which John might have taught.

The certs themselves, when stating father's occupation -  may even say the name of a school.
Or the birth address' might prove to be that of a school - if he was teaching at  a  school where the Masters 'lived in'.

Cheers
