Hiya

1861 census has her living in Lhanbryde.

Alexander Reid - 35 - ploughman b. Alves
Anne Reid - 35 - b. Elgin
Isabella - 9 - Alves
Jessie - 7 - Elgin
Ann - 3- Lhanbryde
William - 2 - Lhanbryde

Residence seems to be "House on Woodside" but it isn't clear.

You've probably got that information, it may well be that you want final destinations but thought I'd post this just in case - the last of my "free" credits with SP courtesy of the various posters on here and therefore good to give back!!

Hi

In 1871 it looks like Jessie and her younger sister Anne were both servants at Balmoral Terrace No 4, New Spynie, Moray.

From your previous topic your Jessie Reid died in Larbert Stirlingshire in 1878 and according to her death certificate her parents were James REID and Ann SIM, I presume from this topic you are checking to see if a mistake was made on the death certificate and her father was Alexander and not James.

From her son William's 1877 birth certificate she allegedly married George Duncan in London in 1877 but no marriage can be found, but from your previous topics it looks like William was raised by relatives on the Duncan side, is that correct? If so, was George Duncan the informant on either Williams birth certificate or Jessie's death certificate? If so, what was his occupation?

Andy

I don't think you have found Jessie yet, there is no positive link between Jessie from Elgin and your Jessie, I think you need to explore deeper.

There are a couple of things that puzzled me, why did George & Jessie say they were married in London? That suggests at least one of them may have been there about that time.

Also, why did they end up in Larbert? Given that they were supposed to have married in London then they were unlikely to have been in Larbert for long before Williams birth. This suggests that Jessie might have moved to Larbert when she found she was pregnant, possibly to a relatives as there are plenty of both Reid and Duncan families in Larbert.

Perhaps the birth certificate for William and death certificate for Jessie may have a clue so:

What were the residential addresses on both certificates?

Who was the informant on both certificates? and if it was George what was his occupation?

Andy

Hi

It's a pity the certificates don't have an actual house address as I was hoping to look up the address in the 1871 and 1881 census to see who lived there. That might have given us a clue.
Still the occupations might help,

Andy
