Scarborough, anyone need photos?
« on: Wednesday 01 September 10 11:06 BST (UK) »
I am going to Scarborough for a few days next week to do some "graveyard trawling".  If anyone wants photos of gravestones or of the surrounding areas let me know.

Hi Sharon

If you are going to be near Manor Road Cemetery, just a  general pic of the cemetery would be appreciated.  My g-grandfather is interred there somewhere (in a pauper's grave - so no headstone and I don't know just where).  So a general view would be good for me.

Many thanks

Ceeoh

Thanks Sharon, I will try again.  I e mailed them in July and received a reply from "Customer First" saying they had passed my request on to the Crematorium Department (don't quite understand why the crematorium department (my g-grandfather died in 1895) unless they hold all the records).

I didn't hear any further but they did give me a tracking number, I will send a further request and perhaps they will send me the plot number.

Regards
Ceeoh

Hi Sharon

Many thanks for your kind offer.

I too would like a general photo of the cemetery along with a photo of a gravestone if you happen to be anywhere close to the following....

Sarah Ann Brown (nee Fletcher) buried on the 26/07/1889 in grave no. South Terrace 2 - 26 at Dean Road Cemetery,  (aged 34 years).

Just in case you happen to pass any other Browns, Sarah's family died in Scarborough but will check on their grave no's and let you know  - they are her husband Edmund Brown who died in 1903, daughter Emily Brown died 1949, Edmund John Brown died 1908, Eleanor died in 1968, Henrietta died about 1955, George Henry Brown & Harry Brown I don't yet have death details.

Many Thanks
Sally

Hi Ceeoh & Sally

Ceeoh, Woodlands Crematorium, Scarborough, hold the records. You could give them a call,  the number is 01723 372652 and they are very helpful. I will take some general photos also for you.  The cemetery is huge so I will do some from various areas.  In fact, I think I have some general ones from previous trips so I will see what I have and forward them to you.  The "pauper" graves usually contain more than one body but I can still photograph the plot if you can find out what number it is.

Sarah, I have a plan of the cemetery so it should be easy enough to locate. Let me know the other grave numbers and I will see what I can find.

Kind Regards
Sharon

Many thanks Sharon - I sent an e mail last night and received a reply this afternoon (not in the U.K. so phone not an option!) - this is what I call good service.

John Porteous,   Manor Road Cemetery,   interred 17 July 1895,   grave number M6-26

If you happen to stumble across a Gamble, a photo might be helpful to a brick wall...  :-\

Thanks for the offer.
