Should have said in my last post - when I saw the stone for Anne Porteous I was quite excited as John's second wife - who was still alive when he died - was named Ann.  However, this is not her as the dates don't fit, and I see her husband was William.

I will pass this on to the Porteous genealogist who has over three hundred Porteous trees on file and I'm pretty sure she will be able to tie this Anne into another family.

Many thanks for including it.

Regards
Margaret

Glad the photos were of interest. Apparently the graveyards are suffering at the hands of vandals these days which explains why some headstones are broken and others pushed over! Even the reasonably current ones can be illegible, perhaps its the salt in the air that does something to them? Hoping I shall have better luck next time in actually finding headstones rather than just unmarked graves!

Hi Sally

I have just come across this website;
http://www.gravestonephotos.com

According to the site someone is photographing and indexing the Dean Road part of the cemetery.

Hi, I am sure that I am too late, but if you ever go again I would like photos of any Harwood Graves in Dean Cemetry.

Cheers

Jean

hello, just out of interest,
there are two (maybe more now) monumental inscription books from dean rd, cemetery printed by the east yorkshire f.h. society, scarborough.
also on face book there is a Friends of dean rd and manor rd cemetery page. the friends are currently repairing the broken stones slowly but surely.
also once a year they have a fair to raise funds for the repairs (details on the face book page.)
most of my family are burie in dean rd/manor rd, so i am very interested in what goes on there!
