BRITISH FORCES IN INDIA 1850s
« on: Tuesday 05 April 05 12:15 BST (UK) »
My GGGrandfather, Pte William SHORTEN served with the UK 52nd Regt of Foot in India from possibly 1851 onwards, however his wife, Jane SHORTEN, seems to have re-married in 1855 to William SANDLES - I presume therefore that William SHORTEN died somewhere between 1851 and 1855 over there.

Are there any known look-ups for this type of information?  I have looked at the numerous on-line databases with no further luck.

Regards,

Bob

Sheldon,

Not sure how I managed to press the wrong keys to send off that last message - sorry about that.

Thanks for your reply.  The site you referenced was where I discovered the marriage of Jane SHORTEN to William SANDLES, but have found nothing else.

My quest continues.

Regards,

Bob

Bob,
Have you looked at the site.
historicaldirectories.org
Its quite slow, but is filled with all sorts of interesting information. You might just find mention of your ancestor.
Good luck in your quest.

Sheldon.
