Joseph John BOOTH where born?
« on: Tuesday 07 September 10 03:47 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find when & where Joseph John Booth was born. Family story has it that he was born "at sea" about 1834. His parents names not known. He married Jane Gibson Affleck c 1868 in Queensland. She was born c1845 in Scotland and died 1914 in Qld. They had a family of 7 children all born in Qld. Not much else to go on. Would love to know when and where Joseph was born and the circumstances ie ship name etc. Hope someone can help

His marriage certificate should give you not only his place of birth but his parents names' as well and the information is given by him.  His parents names may assist in locating shipping records.

Info on all certs in Qld
http://www.jaunay.com/bdm.html

1868/C43
BOOTH Joseph John
AFFLECK   Jane

His death certificate should note his time in Australia.  Do you know when he died?  There are four possiblities on Qld bdm.

Cheers

Hi again,

The George Henry Booth in my previous post was probably Walters brother because George Henry Booth was Walter's NoK on his WW1 papers.

I initially thought George may have been John Booth's father.

Thanks for above various postings. Arthur Walter Booth is certainly the brother of George Henry, and are two of the 7 children to my Joseph John  Booth & Jane Gibson Affleck. From NAA i got the following for Arthur:   Arthur enlisted at Bundaberg Queensland on 26 Oct 1916 at age 31 years and 3 months. Service # 3011. He gave his brother George Henry booth as next of kin. His mother had died two years prior. He was attached to the 42nd battallion. He embarked from Sydney on the Wiltshire on 7 Feb 1917 and landed at Devenport 11 April 1917. Not long after 20 June 1917 he contracted the mumps and after 20 days was declared fit to return to duty. On the 20 Aug 1917 he went to France where he served in France/Belgium until he was was wounded by gassing and admitted to hospital 23 Oct 1918. After 140 days in hospital he rejoined his battalion 27 Dec 1917and  was repatriated to Australia on the Argyleshire 22 Sep 1919.

The above is an interesting side track but I hope the answer to my posting is given in the marriage and / or death certs

Hello, have you had any luck with this?

I am George Henry Booth's grandson, and was brought up on one of the family farms at Gin Gin. I think it was John Booth's grave on a hill on one of the other Booth farms which was planted over with sugar cane when the farm changed hands.
