There is a death of James LIVETT aged 35, Dec qtr 1855 Islington.

That looks a very good possibility and explains why Menah appears to have stayed with her grandmother in Tunstall. I wonder why Ann didn't return there?

Thank you very much avm228, I didn't think I'd ever solve this as everything pointed to Ann having died at Menah's birth. Just shows where one little clue can lead!

I can't see them in 1861 either, but I'll have a good look tomorrow, and for Ann/Sarah's death.

Thank you very much for your help. Ann (Sarah) Groom was my 3x great aunt and it was so frustrating that she just disappeared. Others who have her in their tree had lost her as well. It was only the fact that the administration of her daughter Menar's will was granted to Susan Louisa Hillier that set me on the right path, as I wondered who she was as Menar didn't have any children. I'm really pleased to have found them after all this time.

Just to round this off incase anyone else is looking for the same family:

Ann Levett is in and out of Islington Workhouse in the 1880s and 1890s. She died aged 94 in 1909 in Islington.
