HAMP family of Ware.
« on: Thursday 27 May 04 20:15 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Does anyone have any information about the HAMP families of Ware.

So far I have Joseph Hamp born c1806 who married Harriet/Harriot born c1809.  They had a son called Francis, born c1837, who married Rachel Fry born c1837.  They had a daughter, Fanny Ellen born 1863 in Bermondsey.

Joseph was born in Ware, so was Francis.  Rachel Fry came from Hullavington in Wiltshire.

The earliest mention of Hamp in Herts was a John Hamp born c1743 in Tring.  Is he perhaps related to Joseph Hamp??

Any help appreciated.

Hi,

Just stumbled on your Hamp family while browsing through the 1841 Ware census.  The entry reads -

HO107/435  F.14 P.21  West Mill Road, Ware.
Joseph Hamp  36  Gardener
Harriett Hamp  34
Chas. 6  -   Francis  4  -  Edwd  2  -  Joseph 4mths.
All born in County.

The IGI records the following baptisms at Ware for children of Joseph and Harriett

Jane  26 Jan 1834   -  Charles  27 Mar 1836  -  Francis  01 Oct 1837    -  Joseph  19 Feb 1841   -  Alfred  09 Sep 1842   -    James Samuel  16 Apr 1851   -   Thomas Charles  24 Sep 1852.

Better late than never.

Regards   ...   Peter

Hello,

My name is Kevin Hamp (Waterford, Michigan, USA), and my information trail ends with Benjamin Hamp, born in Kent, 1845.  It says he was an orphan, but I noticed a Benjamin Hamp on this thread, possibly related to Joseph?  My information says he emigrated to Toronto with his cousin, Benjamin Burnham, also an orphan.

If Benjamin Hamp was an orphan and I can't find any other leads, then I guess my search ends here.  :(

I have a lot of family info on Benjamin's family if anyone should be interested.  I guess that's as good a reason to leave this message as any.
