Tranmere, Birkenhead, Liverpool Burial Lookup
« on: Monday 13 September 10 08:55 BST (UK) »

I am trying to find the burial record for a great uncle:

David Fraser Smith died 13 January 1914 at his home 5 Lowwood Grove,
Transmere.  Death cert has registration district as Birkenhead.
I have tried Liverpool, and Cheshire records office to no avail.  Can someone help me please.  I live in NZ so cant just pop in to check records, plus dont know the area either.

I am hoping that by finding his burial record, I may then also find when his wife Ann also died.

Hi

The most likely cemetery would be Flaybrick Hill, Birkenhead or possibly Bebington Cemetery, so they would be the first to check. The records for these are at Landican Cemetery Office but are on film at local libraries, Birkenhead Library I think has Flaybrick Hill and Bebington Library would have Bebington Cemetery. There are a couple of chatters who live in the area and might be able to help. I'll ask a moderator to move this to Cheshire

Andy

Hi myone

Any success?
I'd guess that Flaybrick Cemetery is the most likely.
As I live in the area I could check the burial records for Flaybrick, maybe find out the records of who else is buried in the plot, maybe even find the grave (though Flaybrick is pretty large).
Let me know if you'd like help.

Oops - forgot to ask - do you happen to know the religion?
The records are split by denomination; Church of England, Roman Catholic, Non-Comformist.
No problem if you don't know, though.

Hi

No luck finding their burial records yet.
BUT have managed to find the death record for Davids wife Ann Smith finally
obtained a copy of her death cert.  She died at her son-in-laws who was then living 193 Church Road Tranmere.  Shed died in 1922.
Anns family were C of E but when she married David Smith they married in the Registry Office at Tranmere, so dont really know what religion they adhered to.

Would be great if you have the time and could take a look.  Much appreciated.

Hi myone

I've been to Birkenhead library today and looked at the microfiche burial records.
I can tell you that he doesn't appear to be buried in Flaybrick (the obvious one), Bebington (next obvious) or Wallasey cemeteries.
These three are all pretty large, and to be on the safe side, I checked Church of England, Roman Catholic and Non-Conformist for all three.
Makes me think he may have been buried in a church yard rather than a municipical cemetery.
Last throw of the dice - I'll contact the Council records people and see if they can help (they can be pretty slow).
Can you give me the exact date of birth for wife Ann - maybe I could try it from that angle, assuming they're buried together.
Neil
