Sorry about that - I have just finished typing a very long message and it all seems to have disappeared. So we start again.
Firstly, the question was raised about Charlotte attending Deaths - yes she did - I have the Death Certificates - firstly, her father - Alfred - 28. 2. 1860, then sisters - Elizabeth (15 years old) 19. 4. 1860, and the Mary (mother of the James that seems to have confused some people - he was born in the Tenterden Union Workhouse in 1860 and lived with his grandmother after the death of his mother Mary) Mary died 2. 4. 1862.

I am splitting this message up - in case the original was too long for this system.

Next item -  I have received a copy of the Birth Certificate for Herbert - b 1859 - he is definitely Charlotte's son, so the fact he is accepted as William Godman's son in following Census records - I have to accept the connection, add it to my website , and thank all those Posters out there that have led me to this info.
It appears that when researchers in the US are tracing their families back to England that little titbits like this come to light, so does anyone have any clues to Alfred b. 1840 or siblings Isabel and Richard- I would be grateful.
The only thing now is to wait for that Birth Certificate for Charlotte Ottaway, because she was definitely christened at St Mildred's - 16. 9. 1838 as CHARLOTTE GEORGE _ mother Ann George - unmarried.

I will leave it all for now,

Have a great Easter.

1861c Charlottle Ottaway 22 with her mother Ann & 5 siblings and
Amos age 2 grandson

I can't see a marriage of a William Goodman to Charlotte Ottaway on FreeBMD  :-\

There this birth entry on FreeBMD

Jun 1859 Tenterden   2a   476
Herbert OTTAWAY

Charlotte  was noted as wife WILLIAM Goodman on 1871/1881census ???

Are those census entries incorrect?

When and where did Charlotte marry George?

What was George's occupation on marriage certificate?

nannamilli - thank you for your PM and clarifying  :)

I have added the message you sent here for others who maybe looking at this post

Quote
Sorry - that was my error - Charlotte was married to William not George.

I have never been able to find a marriage Certificate but 'common law' marriages were not unusual in those days.

Herbert was Registered as Herbert but known as Herbert Amos Goodman - shown as Amos Ottaway in 1861

Perhaps the moderator can merge your thread (19 Oct) headed  Ottaway family
