Through the wonders of the internet I was recently sent photographs of family tree of my Guest family of Broseley, apparently drawn up in the 1820s/1830s.
Quite remarkable to see my great x4 grandfather (Charles Guest 1770-1855) at the bottom of a tree and described as living. Even more remarkable that he was a fairly distant cousin to the main branch of the family represented on the tree. Really interesting to see that they were aware of each other, despite being in different areas of the country.
The information on the tree is all very accurate, either matching what I already knew and/or can be confirmed by the IGI's extracted records or the Broseley parish register transcripts.
But one thing which is slightly puzzling me.
It has the marriage of Elizabeth Guest (b. 21 Oct 1711) to a William Beard on 25th January 1736.
In the Broseley transcripts, that marriage isn't there, but on 27th January 1736/37 is the marriage of William Beard and Elizabeth Rowley.
Ok, I can forgive a couple of days and I presumed that Elizabeth Guest had previously been married to a man called Rowley, was widowed and then married William Beard. (There are a few baptisms/burials of children born to a Thomas & Elizabeth Rowley at Broseley.)
But I can't find a marriage of Elizabeth Guest to a man called Rowley, nor a burial of Mr Rowley.
I'd appreciate others' thoughts on whether I'm likely to be right about Elizabeth Rowley being née Guest, and if anyone can find anything to support this.
Many thanks.
