SUDDEN DEATH.-On Tuesday evening
Samuel Thicknesse died very suddenly and in circumstances of a very melancholy character at his
residence, East Maitland road. He retired to bed about 9 o'clock, and afterwards became very restless and complained of heart-burn. He subsequently got out of bed to get something to ease his pain, and
Mrs. Thicknesss, who was in-bed, immediately heard a fall, and on getting up she saw her husband lying on the floor. She endeavored to raise him, and being unable to do so, she went to the front door and called for assistance, Two young men, who were passing, responded to the call, and on lifting the unfortunate man up, found that life was extinct. Dr. Russell afterwards attended. The deceased was
66 years old, was born in England, and had
been a school-teacher until about twelve months ago, when he was superannuated. For some time past he had been in reduced circumstances, owing to losses, and fretted a good deal, but did not appear to be in ill-health. Yesterday afternoon an inquest was held before Mr. A.Vindin, coroner, at Mr George Galley's, Cross Keys Inn, when the above facts were elicited. Dr. Russell, in conjunction with Drs Blackwell, made a post mortem examination of the body, and found that all the organs were perfectly healthy, except the heart and kidneys, which were diseased ; and the medical evidence was that the disease of those organs was the cause of death, The Jury found in accordance with such evidence.
