Lewis Family Llangunnor *COMPLETE*
« on: Saturday 18 September 10 23:50 BST (UK) »
Hello

I am interested in Jonah and Mary Lewis who were at Newcwm Cottage, Llangunnor, Carmarthen in 1881.

RG11 Piece 5393 Folio 5 Page 3

Jonah was born in St Clears c1825 and Mary was born in Newchurch c1821. Would like to find out more about their families.

Many thanks  :)
Morgan

1851 HO107/2472/141/15
Back of Newcwm Llangannor
Jonah 27 labourer born Llanfihangel
Mary 29 born New church
Hannah 3
David 8 months
both children born Llangannor.

I can't see them as yet in 1861. I did take a look at the 1891 and the most likely Jonah is in a home aged 70 with birth place Llangihangel.  There is a Mary with a son in law and dau emily but i can't find Jonah and mary wit a dau Emily.
More searching to be done.

Thanks crisane, :)

1851 helps as it suggests that Jonah was born in Llanfihangel Abercywyn

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/CMN/LlanfihangelAbercywyn/index.html

so I would need to find him in the OPR there.

1861 RG9/4134/13/20
Newcwm Cottage Llangunnor
Jonah 36 ag lab born St Clear
Mary 40 New Church
David 11
William 9
John 7
Margaret 5
Elizabeth 4
Esther 1

All children born Llangunnor
There are 3 possible candidates for Jonah in 1841 so not much help. Who would have thought there would be so many Jonah Lewis's. :)

I'll have to leave this for now.

Hi Morgan, working on the 1851 census, this looks like the marriage of Jonah and Mary:-

Jonah Lewis to Mary Jones March 1846 Camarthen v26 page 686

Not much, but best of luck with her side of the family!

I took another look at the 1841 census.
There are three to choose from. One I discounted because he was living in Kidwelty Pembrey district with two other boys and was a male servant. And the 1851 census is no help because there is only your Jonas and looking on FreeBMD for Jonah Lewis deaths turns up half a dozen!
These are the two contenders in 1841
HO107/1382/11/16/Book 11
Grove Llanginning
John Watts
Daniel David
Jonah Lewis 15 ag lab.
All born in county

1841 HO107/1382/24/9
Saint Clear
James Lewis 50 ag lab
Ann 50
Jonah 14
Ann 4
There are also two other lewis families on these two pages.
