Could we see a bit more of the document, Kerry, to try for some more comparisons, or even eliminations?

I can see igar but like you, can't quite see the first letter as a V. If it is, it is very ornate.

sadly I can't find another V anywhere in the text.

Hmmmm...It doesn't really help does it? though I think it does show that the first letter doesn't seem to be an R.

I tried to play with the first extract in my photographs but it wouldn't let me, except to zoom in, which really wasn't terribly helpful. Might go back and have another try.

Is that Prices Risborough near Thame?

I think that it is probably Wisborough Green, which is near where I live in Sussex. If so Ridgwick might well be Rudgwick which I believe was once pronounced Ridgick (silent w!), which is only a few miles away.
