Just noticed we started with:

Thomas Sweeney and Mary Jane Sheerin  married in Burt  Co. Donegal on
20 Dec 1861 though I`ve no idea what denomination they were or which of the many parishes they came from..

so is this from a family bible?

It is most likely, but not definite, they were R.C with those two names. There were still Sheerins in Burt in 1901 in the Census. PRONI hold some Burt RC records. I know these Donegal searches are complicated, but persistence does pay. If you do get the death certs and they have the parents names, that will make it a lot easier, as there may be census substitutes to check those names against,

This is the link for the 1901 census entry-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Down/Breda/Ballynarally/1238486
However, all 3 women are born in Co. Down not Donegal so I don't think this could be the correct family.

The I.G.I. (www.familysearch.org) lists a child of a Thomas Sweeney and Mary Jane Sherran- Edward Sweeney born 30 July1871 Maryhill, Lanark, Scotland.

Roots Ireland.ie have a marriage of a sweeney to a Mary Jane Sheerin on 20th December 1861 in Fahan which is right beside Burt--both are just south of Buncrana on the west side of the Inishowen Pennisula. Rootsireland is a subscription website with typed copies of Church Records. I ve come across errors previously on it and I ve seen errors on original Church records. Root Ireland give the grooms Christain name as John which is also the brides father's name. The grooms father's name is not on this transcript. It is Catholic wedding. Her address is 'Millainy' which is likely a mispelling  of Mullaney and his Fahan. Likely townlands in the same Parish.

Fahan RC Parish includes Burt and Inch.  Also google werelate.org Sheerin. This was set up by the Doherty inishowen project but quite a few Sheerin's on it. I tried without success contacting the authors and someone ales advised that it was not all accurate. However interesting in the amount of Sheerin,s listed.

You can see the actual register online (free) rather than relying on a transcription and trying to second guess what's there.

I have a john sheerin born circa 1827 in burt - died 1887 in Derry city.

He married Mary Ferry - from Fahan - died Mary Sheerin 1914 in Derry City.

Has to be relatives to your Mary Jane Sheerin.
