Notts Council Archives
« on: Wednesday 06 April 05 22:09 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I've looked on the website for Nottinghamshire County Council's Archives and it looks as though they are the first I've come across that do not offer a postal search service.

Have I got this right?

Jill.

Hi Jill

this from the archive web site

Archive enquiries can be made by letter, fax, e-mail and phone.
Staff can do short specific searches, at their discretion, free of charge.
For a long or non-specific search please visit archives, or a private record agent should be able to help.
A reply for all enquiries will normally be sent within three working days.
Please include your postal address if you are requesting material to be sent to you.
Please don't send additional material or return copying request forms as attachments to e-mail as they can't be dealt with. Instead send by fax or letter.

Hope this helps

Happy Hunting

Hi Teresa,

This is really good of you.

I am looking for the birth/baptism of FRANCIS PATCHETT in about 1755-65 and hoping to get his parents' names.

The first problem is that the surname seems to have many variations in spelling - usually Padgett or Paget.

The second problem is that I'm really not sure exactly where he came from. He married in SHELFORD, his wife was from FLINTHAM, their children were all born in SOUTHWELL and on their marriage licence his parish is described as EAST STOKE. I've looked on the map and all these places are pretty near each other - my favourites would be East Stoke and Southwell.

Thanks again,
Jill.

OK I'm going to be really cheeky here.

(waves at Jill - I think we've spoken recently on another site?! )

Hi Teresa, if you have time to look at East Stoke records could you check for a Frances Patchett/Padgett in 1807/8? However, I stress the only if you have time bit! I know how long these things can take.

Frances was my 3x g grandmother and consistently gives her birthplace as East Stoke. Her age is also pretty consistent, 43 in 1851, 53 in 1861, 62 in 1871 and 73 in 1881.
You never know, you could help Jill and I connect here :)

Thanks for that Teresa. Our problem is that extracted records aren't on the IGI for East Stoke. Nor are they on the Notts FHS index :)

Not to worry, I'll ge there myself eventually!
