1861 Ipswich Cavalry Barracks
« on: Sunday 26 September 10 17:56 BST (UK) »
William Clegg + family on 1861 census for Ipswich Barracks - but how do I find which regiment?
children born 1856 "at sea", 1857 in Birmingham, and 1860 in Ipswich, so must have moved around.
No trace after 1861 though, so am stuck.

Read other postings re Birmingham + Ipswich Barracks so wondered if any one can guide a novice.
Thanks
Clegg - origin Maidstone/London
Perrin - Manchester
Hardman - Shropshire/Black country / Cannock
Lacey - Loughborough

I saw that marriage but think it is this couple in 1851.  There are several similarities but the 1861 has a son William aged 12 whereas the 1851 has Edwin (and there is a birth for Edwin on freebmd)

William was a labourer and 10yrs older that the 1861 William

Hi all -you have got the right family.
William and son Edwin are my direct ancestors.
William that appears to have joined up, seemed to dodge around early in his life too- living with g.parents. - so perhaps is a bit of an adventurer. He was b.1830 in Maidstone and married Martha Clark which fits with earlier census `visitor` a Clark.
However it`s Williams army service trying to get hold of.

I appreciate as a newby I cant pass my e-mail yet. -But please keep the details - ASAP...!
