Fromelles Missing - AIF Walter Grace
« on: Monday 27 September 10 08:00 BST (UK) »
Walter Allen Grace b reg. Jun qtr 1893 Shardlow.

http://www.aif.adfa.edu.au:8080/showPerson?pid=115775

Walter is amongst those men who were born in England and whose names are on the same German burial list as many of the AIF fallen whose identities have been established through DNA testing of relatives.

His parents were Alfred Grace and Mary Allen married in 1884 reg Burton on Trent.

He had two surviving sisters:

Lily Grace b Spondon Mar qtr 1891 and Jane Ellen Grace b Jun qtr 1885 in Milford. She may have died unmarried in London in 1920.

His brothers were William Godfrey Grace reg Jun 1895 and George Alfred Grace ca 1887 who may have died in Jun qtr 1967 aged 80 reg Shardlow.

Tracing a living relative with a reliable DNA match is the challenge :)

A few years past the original post but my wife's family are distantly related to Walter Allen. We still live in the village where Walter is remembered on the war memorial plaque(s) and gravestone in the local graveyard. The DNA sample from my wife's family would be a Y sample but I am also aware that their is a living relative in Derby whom would have an Mt. sample. Not sure if this information is of any interest? Kind regards.
