Hyde family of Horsley
« on: Tuesday 28 September 10 12:19 BST (UK) »
Lawrence Hyde, a broadweaver, latterly of Horsley near Nailsworth, Gloustershire is a big puzzle.  With a particularly unusual name for those parts, Lawrence was married 30/09/1787 at Horsley to Jane Gazard, where and when was he born?

He died 1829-30 and was likely buried at Shortwood.  His first child Joseph was baptized at Shortwood Bapt. Church on 10/05/1795 aged 8 so born about 1788 but where?  Horsley?

The next child recorded is Thomas, bapt. at Horsley on 19/03/1820, son of Lawrence and Jane and born 30/10/1807.  Between those two births (1788 and 1807) there was room enough for Charles, John, George, Lawrence, Mary, Emma, and Jane.  But when and where were they born and baptized.

Can anyone help sort out these puzzles please.

??,

I could probably help but as we are in the throes of moving house,  all my records from the places & names given below are on an external HD and not available for a week or so when we might be sorted out somewhat :D

Send me a P.M in mid Oct. if you still need help and I'll see what I can do.

Regards

Chas

P.S.  Have a look in the Resources Messages Index for Horsley - there's some burials I found.    Chas

Good morning Chas. Hope your move went according to plan and you are nearer to your records, for I am still trying to find the evidence of this Hyde family . I have now found an old note of Laurence Hyde's bapt on 14/11/1762 from Horsley B.T's. He died about 1829-1830 but where buried? No evidence at Shortwood I could see. And where /when were those children born/baptised?I'd appreciate it if you could shed some light!

Regards Apherbe.

Apherbe,

My personal records will not help you but I've just looked for the surname HIDE on the Pilot site and there's a Lawrence HIDE christened in 1762 and from my burial records I can confirm that a Lawrence son of a Wm and Mary Hide was buried at Horsley on March 3 1764.

Seems your problem is growing :o

I leave the rest to you.

Regards

Chas

Hi, Chas. You were right about that burial of Lawrence. However ,unless there was a second Lawrence of similar age of which i am not aware, it seems he enjoyed a second comming for

_he married 30/9/1787 Horsley to Jane Gazard

_was noted in Manorial Court reords in 1793-1795,1800 & 1813

_was exor of Thomas Hanks will pr. 12/5/1824

_he died 25/10/1829 &was  buried Shortwood.age 66 which ties with his bapt  in 1762
I wonder if the burial in 1764 was not of Lawrence but of a brother, say Joseph or William .A thought anyway !. Regards Apherbe.
