Fromelles Missing AIF & still unidentified - Robert Thomas Maudsley
« on: Thursday 07 October 10 17:35 BST (UK) »
Oops I missed one out. Robert was b. Grindleton, Clitheroe, Lancashire, England; he was 26 in Nov 1915; he also had a cousin Pte J. BELL kia

On the 1891 census there is an older sister Florence Maudsley b ca 1887and younger sister Alice b 1890

On the 1901 census he is with his family in Clitheroe.

John Maudsley aged 33 b West Bradford (1868)
Mary Maudsley 40 b Clitheroe (1863)
Robert T 11 (1889)
William H(enry) 10
Jesse 8 (d Dec 1984 aged 92 Leicester Central)
Catherine 7
Mary (Elizabeth)5
John 3
James (Edgar ) 1
Caroline 1 mo
Thomas Scott f-i-l 69 b Grindleton Yks

From the 1911 census there were the following additional children:-

Fred Douthwaite Maudsley 1907

John Maudsley married Mary Scott in Clitheroe in 1886

Mary Scott appears to be the daughter of Thomas Scott and Catherine Douthwaite who married in Mar qtr 1881 Clitheroe.

Catherine Douthwaite was the daughter of William Douthwaite and Mary Singleton (b Garston ca 1790) who married at Ingleton Yks. on 17 Feb 1811.

Catherine had a bevvy of sisters but I cannot find any substantive pedigree leading from any of them.

Onwards and upwards,

Best Howard

Not been involved in one of these before so don't the proper drill, etc.

However, some people on Genes Reunited are researching this family as Robert and siblings listed.   Think there are 3 posters.

Have any of them been contacted?

Thanks Annette for your suggestion.

Our experience of communicating with people on these trees has not been overwhelmingly positive, the connections frequently proving extremely remote indeed and with people often failing to open the messages at all or not bothering to respond.

I believe that most of these connections have already been looked at last year but clearly have yet to yield a relevantly related person to contribute a DNA sample for testing.

Best,

Howard

an update

Thought you might like to know - have found a DNA donor for the male side of the family for Robert Thomas Maudsley who died at Fromelles in 1916 and close to finding one fro the female side.

Not sure how old this post is, I have just joined - I have a direct line to Catherine's family on the Scott side. Catherine appears to be my 3rd Great aunt - down Catherine's brother John (b1824) who married Alice Chamley (b1831 - Langstroth Dale Yks), their daughter Mary (b1853)
was my Great Grandmother..
