Toner family of Derry
« on: Saturday 09 October 10 01:56 BST (UK) »
Hi,

If anyone has any information on the Toner family of Derry I would be grateful if you could pass it on to me.

I know my mothers father was called Joseph Toner I believe my his wife's maiden name was McNamee. I believe they moved to Meath from Straw just outside Draperstown in the early 1950's.

Thanks

Bobby

Bobby,
Welcome to Rootschat. There are several Toner Families listed in the 1911 census in the townland of Straw in the DED of Balcran Glebe. I am unsure if this is near Draperstown but it is a start. See www.census.nationalarchives.ie

Curiously, I have a McNamee/ Toner connection in my family research.   In 1852 Gabriel Toner was a sponsor at the baptism of John Lone (Desertmartin).  John's mother was Susie McNamee.
