Does skull mean anything
« on: Sunday 10 October 10 15:48 BST (UK) »
Hi
My daughter took this photo while wandering through a graveyard in Clontarf , Dublin..
We were wondering if the skull and what seems like crossbones is just a decoration or has it some other meaning ??

Anthony

Probably quite an old stone as this style of memorial was common in the 17th and early 18th centuries. Do you have a date please?

The date is shown at the bottom of the stone - 1730.

I wonder why he had an alias?

I think the stone is to a lady = perhaps 'alias' was used as a synonym for 'maiden name'  ???  ???
