GEORGE family Llanwnda
« on: Monday 11 October 10 14:12 BST (UK) »

I have two interests in the surname GEORGE in Llanwnda .. and so far neither connected to David Lloyd George's family who were in the same area at the same time.

My great great grandmother was Margaret George 1816-1899 born Llanwnda Parish, she married John OWEN 1814 - ?unknown, he was a mariner. i've not yet traced his parentage.

Margarets parents were Stephen George (?dates) a mariner who married Sophia NICHOLAS 1786-1877 (she was born Pontfaen according to census).

Other children of Stephen & Sophia
Mary born abt 1813
William born abt 1819
David born 1822
possibly another William born 1811 - presumed died in infancy before 1819.

my other GEORGE interest are my great x 4 grandparents
Dorothy George born 1811 -
married Benjamin Thomas in 1831 in Llanwnda
They lived in Trellwellyn.
Dorothy's father possibly called William, but so far I've not found Dorothy anywhere!

Anyone researching GEORGE? who can shed some further light....

many thanks

If anyone can

B.T.’s appear to suggest that Stephen George married Sophia Nicholas at Fishguard in 1809. Likewise William George mrd a Martha Evan at Llanwnda in 1800.

B.T.’s are only available at the NLoW.

I wonder if William (mrd 1800) is the son of William George who mrd Mary Lewis at Llanwnda in 1778?

A William George was buried at Llanwnda in 1835

There is a will of John George of Llanwnda reference 1822/014 on the NLoW website.

For Mariners visit ;
http://www.welshmariners.org.uk/
There is no more knowledgeable person on the subject than Dr Reg Davies.

You havn’t suggested where John Owen may have been baptized so my suggestion is 14 Dec 1814 to David & Elizabeth Owen or at a push 1813 to Thomas & Mary Owen at St David's.

If so it appears lightly that David Owen of Eglwyserw mrd Elizabeth Roberts at St David’s 28 July 1813 and Thomas mrd Mary Summons 1802.

With luck a good search of the ECC of St David’s wills on the NLoW website will yield further information.

Thank you for your reply, and the information.

John Owen (or possibly Owens) was born in Llanstinian.
I've not found him on Reg's wonderful site (though his son Stephen, gt gt grandfather is listed)

Its unfortuante that there appears to be several families with surname George residing in the Llanwnda parish during the early 1800's - and that is quite an area to cover.

my search continues
regards
Mellie

.............John Owen (or possibly Owens) was born in Llanstinian..................

He may well have been but he wasn't baptised there thats 100% for sure, unless he was non-conformist. There is just one other alternative that of John Owens (with an 's') baptised to David & Martha Owens at Treffgarne 09 July 1815

There is no other mrge for a Stephen George to Sophia in Pembrokeshire and all mrge's pre 1837 had to be in established church by law you are going to be hard put to find an alternative.

Gd luck
