William HIGNEY born in County Donegal about 1839

Hello Everyone:
I am trying to find out more information about my Great-Grandfather William HIGNEY who was born in County Donegal about 1839.
He married Mary Ann CALLAGHAN in 1884 and died in 1912 or 1915.
On his marriage certificate, the father is listed as John HIGNEY but  the
mother's name is not listed, unfortunately.
William's religion was Roman Catholic.

I would like to find a record of William's birth which would hopefully give me his
mother's name. I am at a brickwall and cannot go any further back on my HIGNEY line. Also, I would like to find out more about William's father, John.

Any advice, help and suggestions would certainly be appreciated!

Hi,
   William's birth was well before the start of official registration (1864). To find the birth you will have to depend on church records where these exist so you will need a fairly accurate locality for his birthplace.

I am wondering if we have a connection of some kind -
My great-great grandmother Catharine Higney (1859 - died 1900 NY) married John F.  Harrigan (b. abt 1859).  They had a daughter Mary Harrigan and other children. Mary married my great grandfather James Joseph O'Donnell also from County Donegal. I was thrilled to find a name like Higney as I was hoping it would be easier to trace my family. On Mary's death certificate it says her father was born in County Donegal! I am wondering if all these families knew each other before they emigrated to the US?  Catharine's father was Hugh Higney (1821? - 1881?)- his wife's name was Mary. Any help would be appreciated. The families were all Roman Catholic.
