Thanks for your replies.

I note the death of John EDE in 1875 but his age does not correspond with the age recorded on the shipping records which was listed as 37 in 1874.

I also was aware of the birth of an Ada EDE in 1875 to John and Sally. As you said the name of Sarah and Sally could be interchanged, I guess.

My line extends down from Florence who was only 2 when she went to NZ. This age corresponds with her age at the time of death. Her parents were recorded as John and Sarah.

A lady in NZ has given me a record of the marriage of a John EDE to a Sarah HARDING 21 May 1859 at Slaugham in Sussex.

I have a record of the death of a Sarah UPTON in 1888 with the parents recorded as Daniel S and Matilda J.

I was hoping the census of '61 and then '71 would assist in filling in some details for me.

My main line of assumption at this stage is the age of Florence when she arrived in NZ. The fact that her family appear to have lived quite close to a family in NZ called GADD, and the GADD family came to OZ and settled in the same area as that of the UPTON family.

In relation to Certificates, no I do not have any as yet but am awaiting copies.
