Great stuff, Gaie. Thank you.

Gonszor / Gonszorowicz were rare surnames, but do occur in the records of some of the Jewish communities of Poland.

As you suggested, Gaie, I think a few birth and marriage certs are required now to verfiy the conclusions drawn here.

It wouldn't surprise me if Fanny/Rebecca turned out to be Isaac Gonshaw's sister.

Over to you LifeinLondon.

Justin

Hi Caroline and welcome to Rootschat!

To make the PM system work properly you may need to make two or three posts.  If you make a couple of replies to this thread then you and LifeinLondon will be able to make use of the system.

It would be nice to know if what has been found so far is correct, leaving out the bits relating to people who are/may be still alive.

Kind regards
Gaie

This is better than GenesReunited!

Welcome to rootschat Caroline.

Please let us know if we're on the right track with the Gonshaws.

Do you have Morris's birth cert by any chance?

Justin

I don't... But it's possible that Gran (Irene) does. I'm in Australia and she's in UK but will ask her. I have a copy of the family tree she did a while back. Will dig it out and take a look. Many of the names were right tho!

Do we agree as far back as Aaron and Fanny/Rebecca?

Gran did a family tree (roughly) for me a few months ago... so I will decipher it as best I can.
Here we go

Maurice Gonshaw was born Nov 16th 1894 at no1 Belgrave Gdns to
Aaron Cohen and Frederika Meljens

He had two known sisters Ray and Leah (Ray had a family but gran couldnt remember details, Leah didnt have a family that she knows of)
3 known brothers Abraham, Louis and Joe
Abrahams offspring Aflred, Francesca and Robin
Joe had twin daughters, that I believe grandma has been in touch with over the years.

Esther (Ella) was one of 16 children - 11 of which survived Maurice who had 6 kids, Jack had 4 kids, Manny had 6 kids, Philip had 4 kids, Rachel, Katie with 4 kids, Leah with 3 kids, Golda, Sarah had 5 kids, Clara 2 kids, and Esther who had Irene, Norman and Sidney. Norman is still with us, although sadly one of his daughters passed away only 2 weeks ago. Sidney died at 29

Esther was born in st Petersburg Jan 24 1898 and Married Maurice in 1921

sorry if im not using the right lingo or whatever, but im new to all this, but thrilled to bits to be making connections!
Grandma is super excited - she has tried searching for family over the years but has never got anywhere, and will be happy to answer any questions we have, so fire away!!

(PS. not that it is as relevant but I have a lot of info on the Frener side too :) )
