John REDDING - Durrow Green
« on: Friday 29 October 10 20:00 BST (UK) »
After nearly two years, I have found that my G Grandfather might have been born in/near Durrow Green (transcribed Darrow on Anc#)

He was born about 1840 and was married in Liverpool in 1860.

Probably C of I as all children baptised in Cof E churches in Liverpool.

I can find nothing meaningful on 1851 English census, so I am presuming he came over sometime after that. I have no leads on his parents, siblings etc.

Is this a lost cause???

Transcripts of Church of Ireland records for the parish of Durrow are included on the pay-website of the Irish Family History Foundation at : http://www.rootsireland.ie

The list of sources on the website shows baptism back to 1706 and marriage to 1797 for the parish.

Hi folks,

The marriage cert for JR has arrived, but I am now a tad confused because we are still in Liverpool!!

John's father's name is GEORGE - a farmer, but the addresses given on the cert are:

90 Castle Street, EVERTON for the groom
and
4 Richard Street, Everton for the bride.

Witnesses were Boyle Smith and Elizabeth Hewitson.  (The name Boyle has an Irish ring about it???)

I have looked at the four "Godrey" maps for 1905/6 covering Everton and can't find either of the above street names.  Castle Street must have been a significant length to have a number 90.

Is it possible that some street names were changed during the Victorian era to reflect names of Victoria's children, eg. Prince Edward Street???

I thought the marriage cert would provide some answers - OK, I now know John's father's name - but it seems there are more riddles still to be solved!!!

Comments / guidance would be appreciated

Why are you surprised the bride and groom were each living in Liverpool at the time of the marriage? quite possible one or both had moved there, met and then got married- address on marriage certificate is where they were living at time of marriage but may not be the place they were born or where their families lived.

Yes, I realise that.  I suppose that I was hoping that the groom's address might have been an Irish one.
I know that bride's family were from Liverpool; I have info for them going back to 1806 in Kensington Place, Liverpool.

I haven't found anything on John Redding prior to his marriage.

Not being able to locate the two street names recorded on the Marriage cert has thrown me.

I reckon there is going to be some serious searching still to be done.
But that is what this is all about, I guess!!

It could be that John came to England for work and had been there awhile before he married so naturally he'd give a local address.

Can't help with location of streets but if you post a query on Lancashire board someone there might be able to help.
