« on: Friday 05 November 10 16:43 GMT (UK) »
I am new at this so please bear with me I am looking for information on James Laidlaw born c 1874 he was the son of William Laidlaw and Jane Riddle who were married in Heriot in 1868 they also had another son John b 1869  I have been able to trace his marriage etc. but nothing on his brother this appears to be the only family they have unless any one can help me find more.

Thank you for your help.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

I am posting details of the IGI entry for John so we know which county he was born in

JOHN LAIDLAW   Birth:  07 SEP 1869   Yarrow, Selkirk    Father:  WILLIAM LAIDLAW    Mother:  JANE RIDDELL

He is with his parents in 1871 in Ettrick Selkirk aged 1yr but not in 1881

1871

William Laidlaw 32 b Ettrick - shepherd
Jane 26 b Cockpen Edinburgh
John 1 b Selkirk
Ettrick ED 5 Page  2 Line 14

1881 entry as follows

William Laidlaw 42 b Ettrick - shepherd
Jane 36 b Cockpen Midlothian
James 4 b Selkirk
Selkirk ED 10 Page 26 Line 18

1891 for West Linton Peebleshire

William Laidlaw 52 shepherd b Ettrick Selkirk
Jane   46 b Cockpen Edinburgh
John  21 shepherd b Yarrow Selkirk
James   14 b Selkirk
West Linton ED 4 Page 2 Line 21

In 1901 - James is still with father William in Peebles.  Jane appears to have died and William is re-married to Mary b 1841 Selkirk

So any marriage for James would be from 1901 onwards and could be in Peebles
