I have no idea what happened between 1901 and 1911 or 1911 and 1920 but in 1920 the Mary Ann James on the passenger list of the Saxonia (is listed as the wife of David James) and was going to her brother David Elliott. The original ships manifest can be viewed on Ellis Island site if it helps. So unless that information is fictious it leads one to believe that she was originally Mary Ann Elliott.

It does make this an intriguing little puzzle.

It certainly is intriguing!!!

I feel we are all missing some link somewhere???

Elsie Elliott (james) p.o.b. is given as Bristol Glos in 1901
1911 it is Brithdir Glamorgan

Brithdir is just up the valley from Bargoed - very near to New tredegar. Robert Elliott's son Samuel James was b brithdir

I didn't post this census

I think I may have found a missing piece of the puzzle

David James married Jane Jenkins =as posted
They had children George, John ,Annie Maud

Jane died 1905

jane Jenkins had an older sister Mary Ann Jenkins

There is this marriage
Dec qtr1909
Llandilofawr
on same page
David james
Edward Glyn Edwards
Mary Ann Jenkins
Catherine Elizabeth james
11a 2118

so it seemed David james married Mary Ann Jenkins -the sister of his first wife Jane

BUT

there is this marriage reg

Dec qtr 1907
on same page
David James
John Lewis
Polly Phillips
Mary Joyce Thomas
11a 2139

BUT

placed in error on bedwellty page is

Marriage
Dec qtr 1907
Llandilofawr
MARY ANN ELLIOTT
ref 11a ?139

as the first number of page no is unreadable there is no cross reference to who else is on the page

It looks very likeley that this could be the marriage reg of Mary Ann Elliott and David James!!!!!

Sorry I was misleading -but I thought something was not quite correct!

Now - to find who Elsie belongs to

and did david james leave his children behind when he emigrated??
