Patrick McGuinness b.1866 Darver
« on: Wednesday 17 November 10 11:50 GMT (UK) »
Patrick McGuinness married in England in 1909 and the 1911 census says he was an engine fitter aged 44 and born in Darver, Co. Louth. His marriage certificate records his father as Thomas McGuinness (deceased) veterinary surgeon.

I am having no luck finding either in the Irish censuses but Patrick at least may have been in England in 1901.

Does anyone have any leads or suggestions?

I`ve had a look on this site and the closest I can find is a Patrick Maginis born 1863 to a Thomas in Darver Parish.Unfortunately u have to pay to look at the record €5 to see if the mothers maiden name is listed. There is also a listing for a Thomas married in 1858 in the same parish.

Seems a long shot and I suppose unless Thomas is listed as a veterinary surgeon there would be no way of confirming this is the correct family.
Does anyone know if there was a register of veterinary surgeons for Ireland in the 19th century?

He may not have had formal training and thus not listed in any directories.
A local family has an ancestor who was a "vet" in 1800s but he was mainly a farmer.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
