My great grandfather is Thomas Stoddart, born in 1863 in Eglingham.

The link to oldscottish.com is great. There seem to be 3 Stoddarts of interest

John Stoddart, servant and shepherd, Ladypart - 1834,35, 36, 37, 40
Stewart Stoddart, hynd, Addenstone - 1840, 41
It is tempting to think this William Stoddart is the same as the one I am interested in. Except 'my' William would have been only 15-17 in 1834. Perhaps one of these Stoddarts was his father

Trish, unfortunately I don't have any details of his marriage - date, place, certificate.

Nor can I find him in the 1841 census. I have found his wife, Ann Alexander, in the 1841 census living with her parents at Alnham. So he was married after 1841 and presumably before the birth of their first child in 1847
