Good idea to get the certificate, or even his birth certificate from 1855.

In 1871 he was with his Aunt Jane Maria Edwards at 41 Mount Pleasant, Llanelly, Carms

I'll see if I can find Jane Maria in 1851/61 to see if that gives any clues 

1851 she's a 13 year old Scholar lodging with Emily Hooper at 1 Ducen's Square?
 Also there Ann Edwards 48 and Mary Ann Edwards 23
