1861 Leicester lookup
« on: Wednesday 02 June 04 22:38 BST (UK) »
Can anyone check the 1861 Census for Noble and any others at Danett's Hall Leicester?
Danett's Hall was demolished sometime in 1861, but I'm not sure when, and am trying to establish dates of movement for various members of that household.
Thanks for any help. George.

Greeting's Again George. . . . .
I've had a quick look at Kelly's Directories . . . .

1861.
J.W. Noble Esq. MP. sold the hall maybe to a William Watts as I found a ref. to W. Watts ( eminent Physician)
which stated he was the owner of " Danetts Hall "

The Chapel was restored on 1st. September 1861. with a bass plate inscribed with. . . .

" In memory their Mother,Father, and sister. By The Children of William Noble Esq. of Danett's Hall " ( no names given sorry )

1864. . . . . . .
The Area was totally flattened and signs of houses being built. . . .

There are streets there today named " Noble Street, Dannet St, Kate St. Flora St. Clifford St. " Where the Hall stood,so that might give you some ideas of the Family names.

Greeting's again George. . . .

I've had my head in those Kelley's Directories again. . .

Sorry but I mislead you about the restored Chapel being in the grounds of Danett's Hall. . .
This Chapel (St. Ann's) is in fact in the Church of . . .
St. Mary De Castro. . . approx 1/2 mile from the Hall.
But it was the private chapel of the Noble Family.
It states that there are several memorial tablets to the Family here other than the one mentioned earlier.
So to make amends I'll go and have a look on your behalf. Hopefully I'll find some Family names

Other Historical snippets. . . .

1771. . . .
William Watts ( the emanate Physician )  of Danett's Hall opened the Leicester Infirmary & House of Recovery from Contagious Fever ( 60 patients)
This went on to become the present Leicester Royal Infirmary.
So the Noble Family didn't sell the Hall to Wm Watts. .in 1861.

1782.. . . .
A Roman Tessellated pavement was dug up in what was the Cherry orchard of Danett's Hall.
It depicted the Greek Goddess Diana & Actaeon.

Thanks for that Mike.  :)
(By the way, I've since found out that the Hall was apparently demolished in 1861 not long after the death of Joseph Noble.)
