That sounds likely, one for someone with medical knowledge to answer, or maybe the staff at the British Library could help. I was there a week ago, and they were most helpful.

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0alu/   "simple continued fever"

http://www.springerlink.com/content/t776q21655177215/
Febris complicata of India.... "the division of all tropical and sub-tropical fevers into ague, remittent fever, febri-cula, simple continued, and typhoid fevers, is not entirely satisfactory as it does not embrace a form of pyrexia...."

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0alv/ lots of reading for you...

So the treatment may also begin with "Febris..." ( Febrif)

and it is a generic answer
febrifuge  / antipyretic.
anything for reducing or ending fever; an antiphlogistic; an antipyretic.

Well done J J

It looks like the word must be Febrifuge

From on line dictionary

febrifuge : An agent that acts to reduce a fever; an antipyretic

Well Evie and JJ your suggestions will do for me.From what I can decipher after taking a look at his previous records,he has what looks like malaria but could be something else. After a while he is examined and passed fit to go back on active service. He then appears to get recurring but not so serious bouts of illness. So Simple Continued Fever treated with Febrifuge will do for me.Thank you both and thanks to all who responded for your help and input.

PS. On another thread I had running concurrent with this one on Scotland General, three Rootschatters have helped me find this man's grandfather,my GGGG grandfather.Brilliant day, isn't Roots Chat wonderful.

George. :)
