« on: Wednesday 01 December 10 16:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi All

My 5th Great Grandparents: Thomas Murray bc 1743, Raheen or Ballyvogue otherwise Sheepwalk, near Arklow. Married when ? To Judith ? bc 1745. [of whom perhaps I am called after] They had 7 children that I know of 5 sons & 2 daughters. Got the ages of 3 of his sons from:

"Copy of a Lease of a farm at Sheepwalk, Arklow, in 1787"

... to the said Thomas Murray, his exors. Admors. and Assigns, from the 25th of March
last past for and during the natural life and lives of Peter Murray second son of the said
Thomas Murray, Lessee, aged twenty four years or thereabouts, Daniel Murray fourth son
of the said Thomas Murray, aged nineteen years or thereabouts, and Thomas Murray fifth
son of the said Thomas Murray, aged fourteen years or thereabouts ....

Ref: P.J. Murray, Arklow Historical Society Journal, 1984. pp 48-52

Daniel 1768 - 1852, the 4th son was Archbishop of Dublin
“On 11th May 1823 at the age of 55 yrs & 1 month he succeeded to the title of Archbishop
of Dublin. On 26th February 1852 The Archbishop of Dublin died age 83 yrs & 9 months”

Ref: Meagher, Rev. William, P.P. Life of Archbishop Murray (Dublin) 1853.

My 4th Gr-Grandparents: I am trying to find out the names of Daniel’s sisters one of whom was born c 1760s she married Mr. ? Ryan.

My 3rd Gr-Grandparents: Mr. Ryan and Miss Murray. They had a son John born c 1780 + who married Anna Redmond. There children were 1. Catherine (Redmond) Ryan baptised c 1800 in St Patrick's Church, Wicklow Town, with sponsors Thomas Kavanagh & Catherine Redmond. She could have married a Mr Woologhan, & 2 John (Redmond) Ryan born c 1816. =: married Anne McGuirk/McGurke of Wicklow, In St. Patrick's R.C. Church. Wicklow Ireland 1 Nov 1841. Witnessed by John Byrne & Catherine Woologhan (was this his sister?) 6 known children baptised in St Patrick’s Church Wicklow Town between 1843 and 1867

Any information on the Murray, Ryan or Redmond families very much appreciated.

Hi Julia,

First of all I am new to this so this is my first reply.
The Thomas Murray (b. 1732)  married to Judith ? (b. 1736) is my 3rd. great grandafther. Thomas and Judith had 8 children but I only  have the names of 7.

The names are:
William married Catherine Farrell
James
Peter married Anne Doran
Daniel - Archibishop
Elizabeth married Matthew Lynch
Unknown named daughter married William Darcy
Thomas Murray married Mary Byrne

Hope that this is on interest. P.J. Murray is/was my uncle, who was a great source for my family history

Regards

Michael J. Murray

Hi Michael,

Welcome to rootschat.com, I only hope you will enjoy this site half as much as I am. It’s lovely to hear from you Michael the first of many conversations I hope.

I have been helped on this site by unknown like minded people who wish to help others, and I hope I have helped some people since I joined. My interest is mainly Wicklow Town. I am an amateur genealogist not a professional, and love to ‘do family history’. Do you have any dates for the family? How are you related?
Children of Thomas & Judith Murray: Do you know anything of the 3 daughters I have mentioned below?

1 William married Catherine,
2 Peter born circa 1763 married Anne Doran
3 James,
4 Daniel 1768 - 1852
5 Elizabeth married Matthew Lynch,
6 Daughter married William Darcy.
7 Thomas Murray bc 1773 married Mary Byrne

8 Anne married James Byrne
9 Daughter was born circa 1770 married Mr. Ryan, son John married Anna Redmond.
10 Daughter married Mr. Johnson. They had a daughter Mary.

Hello J.M.

I read your post and I am also interested in Murray's from Arklow.  Could be chasing the wrong line here - however thought I let you know as your Murrays are a bit before mine so there could be a connection.

I have the following that I know of:

John Murray married Bridget Bolger (c1830's) they had the following children I know Patrick 1850, John 1852, James 1854 & Mary 1857.

Patrick 1850 married Mary Gaffney and they had the following children - John 1874, Bridget 1876, James 1878, Patrick 1880, Peter 1884 & Thomas 1893.

I think that Patrick and Mary Gaffney were perhaps married in St Marys RC in Arklow.  Any connections with yours?
Kind regards
Reoinna

Hi reoinne,

I am afraid I have no other information on the Murray men, other than that which I printed on 1st Dec, as my ancestor was a femail. Would love to find out more about them. perhaps someone else is researching this family, I only hope so. Keep in touch, and I will also if I find out anything more.

Hi,

My grandmother was a Murray and she always said that we were related to Archbishop Daniel Murray. I haven't been able to work out which brother of Daniel we are connected to. My grandmother came from the Dunlaoghaire area but also had relatives in Rush.

Great to see your posts! Must do some investigating of my own now. Sadly Gran is now dead so I can't find out more information from her. I think the house that the Murrays in Arklow lived in is still standing and is a B and B.

best wishes

My grandmother's father was Peter Murray and he had a cab in Dunlaoghaire around 1909.
