Houldings of Market Drayton area.
« on: Wednesday 08 December 10 19:56 GMT (UK) »
I am helping someone trace their roots in the Market Drayton area of Shropshire. The family name is Houlding. THOMAS was born in 1878 (Whitchurch?) with siblings RICHARD b 1876?,GEORGE,LILLIE,ANNIE,FLORIE and NELLIE. As far as we know Richard and Lillie remained in the area but Thomas ended up in Berkshire (Windsor).Any information regarding this family would be greatly appreciated.

Can't find Thomas in 1901 and think he may have been out of the country. I think he married an Emma ? who was from Berkshire but can't find the marriage on FreeBMD.

Hi

Your posting caught my eye - I have a family member who married a Joseph Houlding in November 1905 at Little Drayton Church, Market Drayton.  Is he yours? :)

Thank you all so much for the info....I had gleaned a little myself but nice to have it verified! I am interested in finding any living relatives of this family in the Market Drayton area. I have found Lillie's marriage and also I think Richard's.....to a Martha Leighton? I haven't yet found any more info on George and Florie. The marriage of Thomas and Emma Allen is noted on Freebmd for 1916!!!....but on the 1901 Census for Ireland it states that they were married!!! Emma was born in Newbury Berkshire but cannot trace her as yet...Allen is a popular surname!!
Thank you once again for taking an interest. As for  message re Joseph  marrying in 1905...this could well be Joseph's brother Tom's son?? The families are listed on the 1891 Census living as near neighbours!! If anyone has info on this Joseph then I would be grateful to receive it!!

Hi -

I would also be interested in finding out more about Joseph Holding myself.  My relative is Adah Drown Davies who married Joseph Holding (as I previously mentioned) in 1905.  I have always wondered about her as in 1900 she was unmarried and but had a daughter -Josephine (no father listed on her birth certificate).  I have always wondered if  Joseph was in fact Josephine's father- the name suggests as much!! However one has to wonder why they couldn't/didn't marry at the time?  Which lead me to wonder if he was still married?? Do you know what year Joseph's brother's son was born? I wonder which Joseph she married?
