John Rowland(s) , Bryn Y Fedwen, Llanrug
« on: Friday 10 December 10 19:17 GMT (UK) »
Is there anyone else researching a family with connections to this gentleman and his home ( I think it was near where Seiont Manor is now) ? I'm afraid don't know what his date of birth  ( circa 1770) or death  ( > 1797)  was . I've recently learnt that he was my g-g-g-g-grandfather , having 11 children just over 200 years ago.

I am also trying to trace details about John Rowlands of Bryn Fedwen, Llanrug (no relative) who I am certain is related to the Rowlands family of Plas Tirion, Llanrug, who I have been researching for the last 40 years! I may have some data that would be of interest to you.

That's interesting . I've got John Jones (Brother of my ggg-grandmother) down as being 1786 - 1865. However, I've got his wife down as being an Anne Davies (1785 - 1860) , rather than Mary Jones. They seem to have had 7 children, of whom two sons went to America - with very interesting results.
May I ask from which of John Jones's children you descend ?

Hello all
I have just come across the name Bryn Y Fedwen while researching my paternal family tree.  My 4 x great Grandfather Owen Williams (aka Owain Gwyrfai 1790-1873) claimed that he should have inherited Bryn Y fedwen, having given the lineage as Owen ab William/ab Robert (his father)/ab William/ab Watkin from Bryn y Fedwen.  he claimed that it should have passed down to his father and then to him but the heiress had a daughter Gwen Rolant(Rowlands) and so they lost out.  He also mentioned that there was a  small hamlet of houses know as court of Guard and that William Watkin of Bryn y Fedwen was a contemporary of William Cromwell and allowed them to collect taxes from this site.  All this information is in a book called "Gemau Gwyrfai" which was published in 1907 by Owain Gwyrfai's son Thomas Williams (which incidentally I was able to buy a copy of via Amazon from the University of California!).  Would love to find more information on this part of my tree if you have any.
Regards
Sue Thomas, Rhosgadfan, Gwynedd
