Millipede - thanks for the recommendation re the books.  I will definitely have a  look at them.

Hi Annie.   I am still positive that Arthur Pitcher b 1739 (son of James & Mary) marr Jane Higgs on 4 May 1762 and they had 7 children.    I can't find any other Arthur and Jane who marr at that time.    I don't have any siblings for James so Arthur is new to me although I do have his father as Arthur but no wife.  So your information is great - thank you.

Agreed re Mary Driver however I am sure that she is the right person because no one else fits - yet.   So still working on that one.   I wonder how old Mary was when she had Stephen as James was 56 when he died so she would probably have been around the same age.

I shall sit down tonight when I get home from work and check it all out.   The great or annoying things is that sometimes tyhere are multiple options and working out which one is correct is not easy.

Thanks again
Sandra

Sandra, I just typed out a long reply and went to preview it and it disappeared. The gist of it is that I ascertained a lot of the new info from obtaining wills as well as receiving assistance from the helpful people at the Forest of Dean site - http://www.forest-of-dean.net - they sent me through some images of the Newland parish registers. Sadly, there are some missing entries because the rats got to them.

Yes, there were two Arthurs & Janes - our James' brother and James and Mary's son. The son married Jane Higgs at Hawkesbury in 1762. I must get around to expanding these lines on my tree at some stage.

There is a document at the Gloucestershire Archives (http://ww3.gloucestershire.gov.uk/genealogy/Search.aspx) as follows:

1747 pritchard arthur C   P170 OV 3/4/23   Overseers

I have a feeling this is James & Mary's son. After James died and before Mary married Mills Gwinn, she may have needed to rely upon poor relief for her son, Arthur. I don't know what became of her other children, apart from our Benjamin and the two Williams who died as infants.

There was a Dinah, daughter of Thomas Golding baptized in Arlingham on 26 February 1766. And there was another Dinah baptized 3 March 1751, daughter of Benjamin Golding but I would put the 1766 one as the most likely candidate but worth trying to account for the other one before settling on the later one. No mothers are mentioned.

Hi Annie - it's been a while.  Hope all is well with you.

Hi Rachael - although your people below are not my direct line they are in my line if off to the side a bit.  Goulding is my maiden name.  I have William Golding b 7 Sep 1773 to Thomas Golding and Susannah Davis/Davies.  William has lots of siblings and I have all the dates etc.  The only thing  don't have is William's wife.   I would like to continue this via email but I can't for the life of me remember how to do a personal post so I can give you my email address.

Annie can you tell me how to do that.  Sorry but I have only done it once before and it was some years ago.

Thanks
Sandra

Hi Sandra. Nice to talk again. You just need to click on the person's username next to their post and then choose 'Send PM' which means Personal Message. Or, alternatively, use the icons below the person's profile picture. Rachael has a PM icon and an Email icon.

Sandra, is there some doubt about Dinah Goulding not being William's wife or could there be other possibilities? FindMyPast is showing this marriage...

thanks for replying.

that marriage piece from findmypast was what i was going off too.
also the birth of their daughter Marinda/Miranda names the parents as William and Dinah.

i did research a list of siblings for william, all the children of thomas and susannah, from familysearch .org

hello to everyone .I am so pleased to find such a site to help in my search for the GOULDING family from arlingham. my grandfather Albert Henry Goulding is the start of my quest .he was born 1913 and his mothers maiden name was DARTON .I have done well going back to my ggrandfather x4 but would very much love to keep going ,so any help would be great. my grandfather left arlingham and went to live in the eastend of London in the 30s .we still have a big branch of the goulding family still living in the London /Essex /Hertfordshire area. when I was little my grandfather took me to visit his family in gloustershire right on the banks of the severn .
