If you look at the original, you can see that this is, in fact, 2 separate households.

The 2nd head named John, together with wife Mary A and sons John R and Thomas are delineated with a double slash (\\).

Yes, Evie, and despite the excellent work of KGarrad the two sons
John R and Thomas born 1877 and 1880 have alternative parents:-

According to the 1881 census they are sons of
John Bouch Farmers lab b 1852 Aspatria and his wife Mary A born 1853 Allerby
That 1852 John I assumed to be the son of a John born Aspatria 1817 widower by 1881 (see my comment added in red)

But I already have John R Bouch 1877 and Thomas Bouch 1880 as sons of a John Bouch chr 7 Nov 1852 Asatria and HIS wife Mary Ann

Please try to seperate the two 1852 Johns by finding their parents.

Many thanks

there is a lot you can do for yourself here.  Have you looked at freebmd for instance?     Several possible births on there - perhaps it is time to buy some certificates if you are really stuck?

Alternatively, try to view the parish records.  Baptisms are a great source of information, and would possibly sort out your dilemma.  If you're not in Cumberland, then you could possibly order the films of the parish records via your local LDS family history centre.  It's always better to view the records themselves as a lot of the on-line transcriptions do not contain all the information shown in the registers.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Now I am confused!

I don't understand why you think there are 2 John Bouch's both born 1852, both with wives called Mary A.

Sounds to me like just 1 couple?

1881 census has only 1 John Bouch born 1852 +/- 2 years, living in Cumberland.

Hi Esdel

I think that  Evie is correct and that Henry could be the son of Margaret as she cannot be found as a Bouch after the 1881 census, therefore working on the theory that she has married or has died, looking for a marriage and found:-  Margaret Bouch married James Pool 1882 Wigton Cumberland Qtr J/F/M Pg 10b and then 1891 census RG12 4306 94 34

James Pool Head b1842 Aspatria Cumberland - Journalist and Tobacconist
Margaret Wife b 1845 Aspatria - Shopwoman Job
Ruth Daugh b 1868 Aspatria - Shopwoman
Henry B Pool Son b1876 Aspatria - Solicitors clerk (Henry Bouch Pool??)
Mary M Daugh b 1877 Aspatria - Teacher
Frederick J A Son b 1883 Aspatria
Nita M Daugh b 1885 Workington
John S Son b 1886 Workington

Possibilty?

Regards

Z :)
