Military looking bracelet
« on: Wednesday 29 December 10 13:44 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

In with my Gran's jewellery there is a bracelet that looks rather military. Would anyone have any idea if it might represent something or could it be just something that was fashionable? My Grandfather fought in India, Irag and France with a Yorkshire Regiment.

Many thanks for your help.

Brig

Looks to me as though it has a middle eastern appearance, so I think it might have been acquired while on service in Iraq.

Hi brigcs,

I think that if it was linked in some way to a British regiment,
the symbolism would be more overt, and so, I agree with Redroger's
idea that it could have been acquired during service  overseas.

Is there anything at all on the reverse that might provide any
clue, such as maker's stamp or engraving, or hallmark, letters or numbers?

Looking at it again, I am reminded of the Swords over the street in Iraq, so maybe it came from there rather than India.

No harm intended, but it looks very much like a mass produced item sold at Fair's and bazaars

Yes, I could see it in an Iraqi bazaar. Remember though, if it is genuine then it would be copies in the bazaars.

Looking at it again, I am reminded of the Swords over the street in Iraq, so maybe it came from there rather than India.

They were put there by Saddam and were scimitars.

These have a more heraldic look to them, and the open helm also is a heraldic device of some sort.
One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

I can only see the hilts of these weapons, but agree they do look heraldic. To me they could be swords, scimitars, or even ceremonial daggers.
