Evans - Felinfach, Llanegryn
« on: Monday 03 January 11 23:10 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have any information on Evan Evans and wife Jane Evans (nee Evans) from Felinfach, Llanegryn please???

Their children were, William, Mary (my G Grandmother), Jonathan, John and Ann.

I know that Felinfach has since been demolished and to my knowledge, only one family lived at the address since my ancestors.

I've found the family on various census returns but I am maybe a little inexperienced to figure out who Evan's parents were as some dates on some sensus returns do not match.  He was born roughly about 1836 in Llanegryn.

I remember my Grandmother telling me that Evan and his wife Jane's grave does not have a headstone, which doesn't help!  They are buried in Llanegryn churchyard and my Grandmother told me they were buried at the foot of a large tree near the entrance of the church... I have visited the churchyard but no luck!

Does anyone have any idea where I should start looking for a record of their grave, even though it does not have a headstone???

Any help on the above family would be greatly received.

Many thanks.

Hi Carole and thanks for your message. I have the birth certificate of Jonathan, their son, which gives me the maiden name of the mother. Thanks to that fact, I was able to discard 3 possible marriages of the parents, all 3 certificates I had ordered and paid for in vain! Therefore I am a bit stuck with it really!  The fact that Evan's age differs on some census returns together with the fact that he had such a common name in the area at that time, make it very difficult to be sure that I have found the right Evan on the 1841/51 census returns.

It's so frustrating!!

Arwel.

The name is not unusual but this is a possibility...

There's an extracted record for Evan Evans born 8th June 1832 and Christened at Capel Coch Calvinistic Methodist, Llanegryn on 11th June 1832. He was the son of John Evans and Elizabeth Morgan.

the same couple also has a son John in 1834 and daughter Margaret in 1836

Batch # C102041

Best wishes
Morgan

Thank you Morgan, the date certainly makes sense as Evan was stated as 69 in the 1901 census.  It's just that his age differs on different census returns, so I wasn't sure which one was his actual and correct age!

Thank you also for the link, I shall have a look at it now.

Thanks again Morgan
