Hello Jean,
My Great Grandfather was born "House of Muirton", Benholm, Kincardineshire c1846, all according to his marriage record. Anyway, I have not found that birth record! His name is David DICKSON, the son of James DICKSON and Elisabeth SPALDING, who were married in Benholm, on 25 Jan 1845. Have you come across the Dickson surname before, and would this family be easy enough to find in the records that you have access to?

I would appreciate anything you may know, or have access to.

Kind regards,
Patricia Dickson (New Zealand)

Hello Patricia,

There's no Dickson or Spalding burials in Benholm I'm afraid.

Hello Wendy,

There are no Cummine or Myles burials in Benholm.
On the kirkyard plan however, there are 2 Cumming burials marked, unfortunately 1 is a 17c flat stone and no inscription remains, the other is a more modern stone and was inscribed/provided by D Lamb , but the inscription no longer remains.
Back Street is in Johnshaven, but burials were still being made in Benholm at the dates you provided.
Perhaps they were buried in Inverbervie?

Hi Jean, Thanks for that, but I am actually after a Parish Birth or Baptism Record if at all possible? My ggrandfather David DICKSON was born at "House of Muirton", in 1846 according to all the other records that I have, however I have never been able to locate mention of this record online. (nothing on Scotlandspeople or the web), and unfortunately I live too far away to view Parish Records. In the 1841 Census, Davids father James DICKSON was living in Muirton. In 1845 James DICKSON married Elisabeth SPALDING, in Muirton. And their sons James and David were both born in Muirton (1842 and 1846). By the 1851 census, my DICKSON's were farming at "Mains of Dunnottar". My ggrandfather David DICKSON died in New Zealand 1899 aged 53 years. The only missing information i have and that I would dearly love, is some record of his birth. David DICKSON, born 1846, House of Muirton. I would really appreciate any assistance. Kindest regards, Patricia Dickson (New Zealand)

Morning Patricia,

I only have the same BMD records as you get on family search ie a copy of the parish births, but I have the written copy as you get on SP. I don't have a copy of the Kirk Session records, from which the birth records were extracted. I will have a look in case this birth has been missed on these sites - Muirton is on the edge of Benholm parish perhaps they went to a different church St Cyrus would be the next village down the coast or Garvock the next in land.
