I have recently come across your post on this site.
I am the Great Great Great Great Granddaughter to William Edward Oliver.
Horace Oliver was his son born in South Australia, who is my direct line to William through my father.

We are currently trying to trace the family tree and have only gotten back to his birth in 1851 in Kent. We know he came to Australia in 1870, but have yet not been able to find what ship he came over on.

Hi Katie,
I am the grandson of Cecil Roy, Horace's brother.

Probably the best site for the Oliver family history is the Baker Family history here;
http://www.thebakers.force9.co.uk/fam01369.htm
It details Oliver all the way back to 1650's
I sent them some details of my branch and they included them in the Tree ( although they put
"Frindon" a couple of times instead of "Findon" )
I actually visited the graves of our Great Great and triple Great Grandpas in Luddesdown in 2013.
Also went across to Ash cum Ridley where the graves of our ancestors are still there back to about 1704
Was in Adelaide earlier this year and visited the graves of William and Eliza in Cheltenham Cemetary and the house at 23 St Albyns in Findon which I am pretty sure William and Eliza lived in
William gave my grandpa a block of land on Grange Rd and he built a house called "Melmerby". I think this may have been the ship William came out to Australia in.
Regards
Mike Oliver

Hi Mike,

Thank you for the website link. That has some great family history.
My dad used to live behind your grandfather in st albyns and remembers his Uncle Cecil always coming over on Christmas morning to have a beer with my grandpa Max. Cecil was the one who taught my grandfather all about horses when he was younger, dad was reminiscing on some very good memories of them both throughout his childhood.
I frequently visited findon and our large family all through my childhood, it was a lovely place to be.

We are hoping to head to Kent mid next year.

My email address is (*)

My dad would very much like to get in contact with you personally if you were interested. I can send you his details if you would like to email me.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Katie
