Hi

Would this be him on the 1841

Tyddyn bach, Llanfair Talhaiarn
Ho107/1402/6/28/6

Jones
Abel, 30, Ag lab
Anne, 25
Richard, 5
Evan, 1

All born county

Note that in 1841 those over 15 had their ages rounded down into 5 year age bands - thus Abel would be between 30 and 34

In 1851, it looks as if Anne has died and Abel has married a Margaret

Cynant Street, Llanfair Talhaiarn
HO107/2507/221/15

Jones

Abel, 39, ag lab
Margaret, 38
Robert, 14, ag lab (is this Richard?)
Evan, 12
Elizabeth, 7
John, 3
Margaret, 1

All b. Llanfair

There is another Abel and Margaret couple on the 1841 and 1851 but different children

June q 842, St Asaph vol 27 page 289 - Margaret Foulkes
Dec q 1843, St Asaph vol 27 page 293 - Margaret Hoskinson

thanks for the census returns, much appreciated, but they don't show a daughter of Abel ie MARY JONES bc1840/1 who married 1862 LLangernyw Isaac Roberts of Ty Mawr ,her residence noted as Tyddyn Bach dau of Abel, maybe she was a maid on a neighbouring farm at a young age!!??

You didn't mention a Mary in your first post - it would have helped  :-\

There is a Mary on the 1841 with the other couple - but they are not living at Tyddyn bach and Abel's wife is not Anne.

Ty Issa, Llanfair T
HO107/1402/6/29/7

Jones
Abel, 35, Ag labourer
Margaret, 30
Jane, 9
Elleanor, 7
Margaret, 4
Mary, 2

All b. Denbighshire

Are you sure that you have the correct family as the Abel living in Tyddyn Bach in 1841 is married to an Anne and this one, with a daughter Mary, is living Ty Issa, married to a Margaret.

The address on the marriage cert would be where she was living at the time rather than where her father lived, so it could well be this second family and her mother would then be this Margaret rather than Anne.

There is this possible for her in Barrog in 1851

Nant, Barrog, Llanfair T
HO107/2507/204/8
Household of a Thomas Lerris (weaver employing one man)

Mary Jones, servant, 11, house servant, b. Llanfair T

The Llanfair  pieces appear to be missing for 1861.

I think you should try to track down a birth cert/baptism for her might be the only way of working out which are her parents. I'd say that her mother was a Margaret not an Anne.

 ::) ::) ::)

I think that I've solved the puzzle.  The Tyddyn Bach was in Llangernyw  not Llanfair Talhaiarn   and the family moved there between 1851 and 1871 :-X :-X :-X

1871

Tyddyn bach, Llangerniew (NOT Llanfair Talhaiarn)
RG10/5677/76/7

Jones
Abel, 65, farmer of 89 acres employing 3 labourers, b. Llanefydd
margaret, 61, b. Bettws yn Rhos
John, 23, b. Llanfair Talhaiarn
William, 21, b. -do-
