there are no service records for any duncan harper,s at all not in any eras, and the emigration records don,t start till 1890.

I’m researching for my auntie’s 90 year old boyfriend, a direct descendant of Margaret Harper b about 1833, who was married to George William Williams in 1853, by a Church of Scotland vicar in Chewton, Victoria, Australia.

Just working with online resources it is impossible to make the leap into Chatham Kent and accept Duncan the soldier and Letitia Kennedy Harper as Margaret’s parents.

Zillions of trees on A*try have made this connection. Is there any evidence available?

George William Williams b about 1821 is another brick wall for us.
Their last child was Ellen Letitia (significant?) b 1876 at Chewton, but I haven’t found him death, to be able to obtain a copy of the certificate.
Other trees have latched onto another London born man of same name who lived and died in Melbourne but our guy was probably a coal miner and as all the children were born at Chewton, I reckon he didn’t wander too far,
anyway I won’t admit defeat yet
