« on: Friday 28 January 11 18:17 GMT (UK) »
Any information on the White and Clubbe familes please. William White b.1854 Huxley married Jane Clubbe b. 1858 Coddington at Farndon in 1884. Their youngest daughter, May b. 1902, was my wife's grandmother.

Can you be more specific as to the type of info you are asking for?

Can you also tell us what BMD and census info you already have so we don't duplicate

What have you already got?
Have you got their marriage cert? If so who were their fathers and occupations?
Have you got them in any censuses pre- marriage? Remember 1881 is free to search - have you found either of them there?

Hello NEMASIS,

The family are on the 1881 census at Chester Road, Churton by Farndon.

John White, married, Head, aged 54, Ag lab, born Cheshire, Churton.
Jane White, wife, aged 39, born Cheshire Churton.
William Whie, son unmarried, age 26, ag lab, born Cheshire Huxley.
Jane White, daughter, aged 2, born Cheshire Churton.

John White appears to have remarried as on the 1861 he is in Huxley and the family were as follows:

John White, head, married, aged 33, ag lab, born Churton Cheshire
Margaret White. wife, aged 27, born Foulk Stapleford, Cheshire.
William White, son, aged 6, scholar, born Huxley.
Sarah White, daughter, aged 12 months, born Huxley.
Henry Done, Nurse child, aged 4 months, born Waverton.
Sarah Cawley, aged 67, Lodger, widow, charwoman, born Hargrave.

The reference is RG9/2624 Folio 151 Page 18.

In fact on the 1871, John White is shown as a widower as follows:

Churton by Farndon.

John White widower, aged 44, ag lab, born Churton by Farndon.
Sarah White, daughter, aged 11, unmarried, born Huxley.
Anna White, daughter, aged 8, born Huxley.
Mary A. White, daughter, aged 5, born Churton.

John White appears to have remarried Jane Probin in Chester Registration District in the June quarter 1873.

Margaret White's death may be that registered in Chester District in 1871.

Jo.

Hi, thanks for enquiries. The only document I have is a copy of the Marriage Cert. 25/06/1923 for Audley Gladstone Jones and May White in Chester. This shows respective fathers to be Randle Jones from Wrexham and William White from Hoole. My rearchs so far take me back to William White b. 1854 Huxley marrying Jane Clubbe b. Jun 1858 Coddington in Farndon in 1884. I've found seven children, two of which died in WWI. I've no other information on the Clubbe family, except for an 1881 census entry for a Jane Clubb in domestic service.I believe William White's father to be John White b. 1826. I've got the 1881 census for John White, the 1901 census for John White and William White and the 1911 census for William White. I've haunted FreeBMD so if anyone can fill me in on the Clubbe family and/or take the Whiyes further back I'd be extremely grateful.

Jo, thanks for the info.. Looks like I was replying to the earlier posts whilst you were supplying information. I have not been able to find any earlier census than 1881.

How old are Audley and May on that 1923 marriage cert?

Audley should be approx 25 if this 1901 entry for Gresford Denbighshire is correct (although he is shown as a daughter!!  and family surnames is ONES))

Somebody called Ian Kelly has notified the errors and appears to have an interest in the family via Vivian

All children except Catherine b Marchwiel

Randle Jones 41 wheelwright b Marchwiel
Fanny 40 b Brecknock Llanganny
Vivian R   15 (male)
Fanny A   13
Blanche 10
Alexander   8
Catherine M   4 b Gresford
Audley G   2
Florence M  3
RG13 Piece 5215 Folio 114 Page 28

Randle married Fanny Eliza Greening in 1884 - see freebmd

Need May's age in 1923 to check her out on census entry

CaroleW: that is the correct census entry. Audley's name was sometimes spelt Hordley (and other ways I expect). I've been down FreeBMD * FreeCen but tracing the name Jones needs a great deal of documentary confirmation. One of Audley's uncles is John Jones (who we believe to have been estate carpenter at Erdigg).

Presume May was the freebmd entry for June qtr 1902

Re: Jane Clubbe

You will find her on the 1861 census indexed as Clubb ref RG9 Piece 2624 Folio 96 Page 6

Freebmd shows her parents as Thomas Clubbe and Ann Hough - marriage 1858
